Once you think you have everything, you've lost the only thing that matters, the desire to be better.
— Chris Davis
It wasn’t Chris Davis’s lifelong goal to bridge the gap between the practice of public accounting and technology. Rather, this mission evolved through a series of life experiences that eventually revealed this calling and passion. The mission that preceded it was one of military service in the Marine Corps, where he developed what he calls a, “Semper Gumby,” mindset which acknowledges that everything can and will change, so we must adapt accordingly. Chris’ career has indeed embodied this principle.
While serving in the Marine Corps in Japan, he fell in love with SCUBA diving and became a NAUI instructor on the weekends. When he returned home to Arizona, he got a job with a national RV rental company as their Regional Agency Manager. Given an understaffed IT department, he decided to teach himself SQL and ASP.net in order to create both a customer relations tracking system and a purchase order processing system (see: “Semper Gumby”). This experience informed the technology side of his mission. The public accounting piece developed after pivoting from pursuing a degree in Marine Biology (Arizona is a desert after all) to an accounting degree. While earning his degree, he worked with a few startups which prompted him to minor in Entrepreneurship. And, he decided to throw in a Masters of Accounting for good measure. He then went to work for a large accounting firm, where he founded an innovation team focused on process automation.
So, when Chris isn’t deep diving (pun intended) in the above activities and pursuits, he enjoys off-roading in his Jeep, long-distance target shooting and working around his rural land growing food and tending to his chickens (Marshmallow is his current favorite).
