Dan Gerhart brings 20 years of extensive experience in public and private accounting to his role at Dark Horse CPAs. Prior to joining Dark Horse, Dan led both the Client Accounting Services (CAS) and Assurance Readiness service lines at a prominent regional firm, where he cultivated a comprehensive understanding of managing and preparing businesses for various levels of financial assurance.
Dan began his career in audit, dedicating over a decade to refining his expertise across a diverse array of industries and company sizes. This foundation in auditing principles, financial compliance, and risk management has equipped him with the versatility to address complex financial challenges in dynamic business contexts.
Building on his auditing background, Dan has held key Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) roles, where he gained hands-on experience in managing financial health through strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting. His unique perspective—spanning both sides of financial transactions—positions him as a trusted advisor capable of solving intricate compliance issues, supporting startups, and helping businesses achieve sustainable growth.
Dan earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin and actively participates in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants (MNCPA).
Outside the office, Dan enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife and three children. His hobbies include traveling, fishing, snowboarding, and spending time at the lake. A passionate advocate for giving back, he is also dedicated to raising funds for charitable causes.
