Sports, finance, and family. Not necessarily in that order, but it’s safe to say these areas of Matt’s life are where the majority of his time has been invested. As a kid, utilizing every spare moment to play 2-on-2 wiffle ball, basketball or touch football with his 3 brothers, while consuming all things Giants, Niners and Warriors. As a young adult, diving into his career in finance which began in corporate finance at HP, transitioned into personal finance with a family office and eventually into his own wealth management practice. And, as a less-young adult, starting a family with his wife, Allison, flipping the script as being one of four boys to having three daughters. These three areas, indeed, have enriched his life in their own right and in their own ways.
Matt started his college career in finance at the University of Arizona, where he was an ice hockey goalie protecting the net from the opponent. He later earned his degree in business management from Saint Mary’s college, while working as an analyst in the finance department at HP protecting the company from financial missteps. From HP, he transitioned into a family office where he cut his teeth on all areas of advising high net worth clients, protecting their wealth (and growing it!). Alas, he built his own firm where he could democratize his unique approach to advising high net worth clients to those who didn’t have 8,9 or 10 figures behind their name. That he would meet Dark Horse’s founders through a mutual friend was serendipitous in order to extend this mission of democratization even further.
As you might expect, outside of work, and also within work, Matt can be found perfecting his golf game. He can also be found on a given field or court, coaching his daughters’ sports teams. Or, you’ll find him in the wilderness on a father-daughter campout. And, to round it all out, he also spends his time with various San Diego-based financial literacy non-profits, imparting his financial knowledge on those who need it most.
